Richard Liautaud II is a musician, educator, composer, orchestrator, and sound engineer based in Los Angeles. Mr. Liautaud completed a Bachelors of Music in Tuba Performance and Composition under a merit and performance scholarship from Azusa Pacific University and graduated cum laude studying under John Van Houten and Mark Gasbarro. He continued his studies at APU by completing a Masters of Music in Composition with the help of a performance assistantship graduating cum laude, studying under Phil Shackleton and Mark Gasbarro. To further his skills and curiosity, Mr. Liautaud completed a certificate in Music Technology and Production at Los Angeles City College.
As a musician, Richard plays tuba and bass in many styles and enjoys collaborating with other like-minded musicians in creating music. He has played with the Symphony of the Verdugos, Pasadena Community Orchestra and Band, Glendale Youth Orchestra, Colburn Community Wind Ensemble, the Tournament of Roses Honor Band and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Band. This love of music creativity and expression also fuels his compositional interests. Although primarily trained in classical and jazz mediums, Richard enjoys learning about new music. He has continued his music studies at LACC learning about Latin and West African music. This life–long learner mindset has enabled Richard to become an effective educator in teaching and growing students to become the best they can be. He taught the composition and technology classes at the Azusa Conservatory and was their brass instructor. He also teaches high and low brass at Bertrand’s School of Music and produces brass content for the school.
In thanks for the opportunities and education given to him, Richard’s goal is to equip his students with the skills they need to succeed in their creative, musical and academic journey.
