Like many of America’s great musicians, Marcus Buser got his start at a very young age playing and singing in church. This gave him an early introduction to classical and gospel music. This experience also taught him to switch between vocals, guitar, bass, and piano with great comfort. His love of jazz music brought him to California, where he earned his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Jazz Studies from the prestigious California Institute of the Arts. During his time there he studied with jazz greats Charlie Haden, Darek Oles, Joe LaBarbera and Larry Koonse. In addition he studied classical double bass with Peter Rofé of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and played in the string orchestra under the direction of acclaimed contemporary violinist Mark Menzies.
Since leaving school Marcus can be seen performing regularly in Los Angeles and touring nationally with various groups in wide range of styles including Rock, Folk, Indie, Hip Hop, and Jazz. Marcus can be heard on many studio albums, working with grammy nominated producers Tyler Chester (Madison Cunningham, Andrew Bird), and Van Dyke Parks (the Beach Boys, Gabby Moreno). Marcus is also a prolific songwriter, writing in collaborative rock band Bird Concerns, as well as writing, releasing, and producing music under his own name.
