Laura Jean / voice

Laura Jean Anderson was born in Olympia, Washington and has been playing music since the moment she could make noise. Originally focusing on the study of voice with a classical and jazz background, Laura Jean received her BFA in Vocal Performance from California Institute of the Arts, where she had the privilege to work with some of the best teachers in the country. After expanding musically, Laura Jean began to explore the world of guitar playing and composition, where she has found another passion. Although based in Los Angeles, Laura Jean travels the country with sensation Jomama Jones as well as with her own original music with the project The Lady and stays involved with many different projects as a musician in salsa, MoTown, soul, country, jazz and folk bands. Laura Jean has performed in various groups in many admirable venues throughout the county including The Kirk Douglas and Red Cat Theatre (Los Angeles), Fifth Avenue Theatre and Experimental Music Project Museum (Seattle), Joe’s Pub (NYC), Salvage Vanguard Theatre and Mohawk (Austin), and Victory Gardens (Chicago). Laura Jean has taught voice, piano, songwriting and guitar since she was 17. She is enthusiastic about giving students the feeling that they can achieve anything they set their mind to. Her approach is tailored to the student’s desires at the same time as pushing for expansion and experience.
